The single European market is a reality. The new directives concerning Personal Protective Equipment have the objective to harmonize the legislations of the Member States and to establish the new requirements to which the products and their users must comply.
The European standards define the technical specifications required to meet these new requirements.
Mapa Professionnel would like to take this opportunity to explain these new provisions to you.
The 89/656/CEE (Use) directive describes the requirements to which the employers must fulfil for the supply and the use of PPE by their employees.
The 89/686/CEE (Design) directive describes the essential requirements for selling protective gloves on the European Market.
The whole Mapa Professionnel range is CE certified in conformity with these essential requirements, and their products are CE-marked. |

Regulations relative to food contact
European directive 1935/2004/CEE, relative to materials and objects intended for contact with foodstuffs, specifies that these materials must be inert. Only plastic materials are concerned, and it only applies to a very limited number of the gloves’ constituent materials (such as PVC).
In the absence of a European directive applicable to the majority of the constituent materials found in protective gloves, such as nitrile or natural latex, national regulations apply.
The manufacturer must ensure that each constituent is found on the positive list defined by national regulations, and check that local inertness criteria are respected.
In Europe, test conditions and stimulants differ from one country to another, as well as the positive lists.
Hence, Mapa refers to the American standard FDA 21CFR 177.2600. For certain countries, conformity to national legislation must also be obtained; for assistance, please contact our customer technical department. |
